Reasons
Why choose one of these methodologies?
Many of the families who choose homeschooling or unschoolinng do so for different reasons, but most of them agree on the same thing: there is something about the educational system of the country they live in that they don't like or are not convinced by. Here are some of them:
- Obsolete educational system:
The educational plan has not evolved or is not adapted to the current situations of civilization.
- Time determined for each subject.
Following a schedule with many hours of work and at the same time many subjects means that each subject has a limited time. In a school, once a class is finished, the next class is moved on to the next one, regardless of whether the whole class has understood the lesson or not.
In the traditional school, the best students in the class are rewarded positively while the worst ones are punished to avoid being the worst again.
Exams, written tests and many other forms of evaluation make us classify students by a number, something that definitely does not measure their intelligence.
Another point in favor used by homeschooling families is the use of the curriculum they see most suitable for their children, so that despite not being enrolled in an educational center, they can follow the national curriculum, or on the contrary, be homeschooled to follow that of another country.
Other reasons not related to the educational system may include the following:
- Gifted Kids
- Elite Athletes or Performing artists
- Dyslexia
- Autism
- Illness
- Bullying and School Phobias
- Travelling Families
